Anzac Day is a national day to commemorate the soldiers and civilians who fought and died in wars and conflicts on behalf of Australia and New Zealand. Anzac Day also has national holiday status in the Cook Islands, Niue, Pitcairn Islands and Tonga. The Anzacs fought on behalf of their allies at the Dardanelles in 1915 and later in the Middle East and Europe. Anzac Day commemorates the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.
